Oni (鬼?) are creatures (yōkai) from Japanese folklore that share many similarities with Western demons and ogres. They are popular characters in Japanese art, literature and theatre.

Oni demons are reflected in these masks that symbolise, precisely, the belief in this spiritual world. The function of these demons is to punish and torment those who are evil and unjust. Thus, there are bad Oni, but there are also good ones that symbolise protection.
